Community Sports Networks

Community Sports Networks in Nottinghamshire

Community Sports Networks (CSNs) provide local coordination between all the agencies that have an interest or involvement in increasing participation in sport and physical activity. The aim is for CSNs to think globally but act locally.

In the county, the following CSNs are currently active:

  • Active Ashfield
  • Bassetlaw Sport and Physical Activity Partnership 
  • Broxtowe Community Sports Network
  • Gedling Changing Lifestyles Group
  • Active Mansfield
  • Newark & Sherwood Community Sports Network
  • Nottingham Physical Activity Partnership
  • Active Rushcliffe

The types of partners that are represented on the CSNs operating in the county will include the local authority sport development, Primary Care Trust, school sports partnerships, Professional Sports Clubs, the youth service, University and/or Further Education Colleges, Council for Voluntary Services, regeneration and community safety organisations.

Within the county each CSN is working to develop an Action Plan that is appropriate to its area. Typically, they will be seeking to:

  • To increase the number of people who engage in at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity level sport or active recreation at least three times per week with particular emphasis on under represented groups
  • To tackle the rise in obesity
  • To increase the number of volunteers in sport for at least one hour per week.
  • To increase the number of coaches and the quality of coaches and coaching within the area
  • To organise events
  • To raise the profile of sport and physical activity in the area
