30 Minutes More

Just 30 minutes more could change your life...

Did you know that by doing 30 minutes of exercise, 5 times a week, you can change your life?

It is a proven fact that doing this tiny amount of physical activity can affect you in the following ways:

  • Reduced risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers
  • Improved body shape
  • Improved mental health
  • More energy
  • Increased confidence

Now, we're not saying you have to run out and join a gym, take up marathon running and swim the channel by the end of the year...

Being active can include anything that you enjoy doing, as long as it gets you moving and your blood pumping a little faster.

Why not try some of the following activities to help you get active?

  • Walk the dog
  • Ride a bike to work
  • Climb the stairs in your office rather than using the elevator
  • Chase the kids around the garden
  • Get off the bus 1 stop earlier than you normally would
  • Try having a go at some short events - like Twiggy & Emma's Family 5K which you can walk or run, depending on how you feel. Visit www.trentfm.co.uk for more details.

It has also been proven that children who are encouraged to exercise with their parents are more likely to remain active in later life, reducing their risk of the diseases mentioned above and preventing obesity.

Nottingham is a beautiful city - no, seriously - with parks, landscapes and countryside that provide a perfect setting for being out and about with those that mean the most to you.

Remember that whatever you do, it is worth it, for you and your family.

And don't forget to add your points in the Shape Up Notts! section of this website.  It's the perfect way to track your progress and a really fun way to get the kids interested in being active.

You've nothing to lose and absolutely everything to gain, for just 30 minutes, 5 times a week.

Together we will Shape Up Notts!
