Sport England's new - Improvement Fund

Sport Nottinghamshire

Sport Nottinghamshire statement:

We welcome this investment of Lottery Funding via Sport England into our community clubs and facilities and encourage Nottinghamshire based groups to consider submitting an expression of interest.

There will be five funding rounds the first having already begun and runs through until 29th September 2012. The first funding round is specifically for those who need to improve artificial pitches or swimming pool changing rooms.  If you need any further advice on your submission please contact our Business Development Manager Ken Pollard e: kenneth.pollard@ntu.ac.uk

For more information on funding options for Nottinghamshire please see the funding section on our website

Sport England statement:

Over the next five years, the Improvement Fund will invest £45m of National Lotteryfunding into medium-sized projects that will improve the quality and experience of sport.

This will be distributed via five funding rounds with £3m available this year (2012/2013), £9m in 2013/2014 and £11m per year in 2014/2015, 2015/2016 and 2016/2017.

It is part of Sport England’s new strategy which is focused on helping more people acquire lifelong sporting habits.

The Improvement Fund will award grants worth £150,000 to £500,000 into sustainable projects with a clear local need.

It bridges the gap between our Iconic Facilities fund which invest in large-scale, multi-sport facilities and our Inspired Fund which supports small-scale community clubs

In its first round we are focusing on projects that will improve:

  • Artificial grass pitches (AGPs)
  • Swimming pool changing rooms.

Not only are these improvements relatively quick and straightforward to carry out, our research shows they can also make a big impact on encouraging more people to play – and keep playing –popular sports such as football and swimming.

Expressions of Interest to the first round of the fund are being invited from appropriate partners. We will work with these partners to develop the project before soliciting grant applications which will be presented to the Sport England Project Committee for consideration.
