Welcome to the first Sporting County newsletter which we hope you will find to be a useful tool in keeping up to date with what's happening in sport and physical activity in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

We also want this to be a tool that you can use to get important messages out to partners and stakeholders, informing them of the latest news and work in your sector. There's already a long list of items queuing up for inclusion in the next issue, but we want more information on the sporting goings on around the county. Please send press releases and images to Roxanne.godfrey@ntu.ac.uk

Two sports projects in Nottinghamshire have recently been successful in gaining the London 2012 Inspire Mark, a programme that recognises innovative projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Sport Nottinghamshire's Talented Athlete Mentoring Programme and Nottingham City Council's Free Swimming project have both been awarded the prestigious mark for being inspired by the 2012 games.

The county and region's first adiZone was launched last week in Nottinghamshire, at Sutton Lawn in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Inspired by the many sports of the Olympic and Paralympic games, the adiZone takes the shape of the 2012 logo and boasts a performance area, basketball, climbing wall and outdoor gym equipment.

It is designed to encourage more young people to become actively engaged in sport and physical activity.
