 | | Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms | On July 6th 2005, London was selected as the host city for the 2012 summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The games are often labeled as the 'greatest show on earth', involving thousands of sports men and women from around the globe aiming to reach the ultimate in sporting achievement. The Olympic and Paralympic Games will take place almost entirely in London. However, the bid team stressed throughout their campaign, that the games would benefit the whole of Britain. As a county that is well connected to London by rail and road, Nottinghamshire has already undertaken significant research into the likely opportunities. Following the successful consultation the East Midlands Strategy for the 2012 Games has been released. The structures and themes have been revised slightly to recognise the aspirations and activities of the many key stakeholders across the region. To download a copy of the strategy please click here. Steering Group Sport Nottinghamshire has established a Steering Group in order to maximise the benefits of 2012 for the county.
