I have friends that use slimming clubs as well. They feel that exercise is not promoted adequately. In fact, one lady has now given up her hour of slimming club for an hour of exercise, which must be better for her!

I usually think women's tennis is more entertaining than men's - where they serve the ball so fast it's impossible to return it or the match ends up being a baseline slog. Women's tennis is typically is more tactical but I have to agree that this years men's final was much more entertaining than the women's.

However, I do think men and wome should be paid equally, without question. At the end of the day, prize money from Wimbledon is pocket change to these guys who make millions in sponsorship. I think I heard Federer is worth around 41million.

Paying men more than women is archaic and needs to change in my opinion... It has changed in most Olympic sports already.

                                      Hi,
Thanks for replying! Well done on the Great Notts, it was sooo windy! Let’s hope next year isn't so blustery..

It's amazing how much exercise is achieved from something like walking the dog. I have a friend who takes part in something called Canicross, which is where you run along with your dog through fields and forests and take part in events! Sounds a bit odd I know, but she likes it. I'm a cat person myself!

The webpage is http://cani-cross.co.uk/cc_calendar.shtml

Thanks again

I did the Leicester half last year, which was on some of the course for the full marathon. It is a little difficult to predict on the basis of that what it will be like for this year's race, as it was the first time in years that these races had been back in the city, and some improvements are planned for this year. The marathon course last year went through the city and out into the country, before coming back into the city. It has some small hills, which last year included one near the finish, but I understand that the finish will be relocated to the city centre this year so that particular hill will be left out. Two things to note, if it is your first marathon, is it was a little low on spectators last year, so the atmosphere is not as good as at some other big city races, and also not as many people doing the full marathon. I am a bit of a slow plodder and those things would put me off doing my first marathon at this race. However both of those factors may improve this year.

I can't give any personal recomendations for footy clubs in the area, but I'd suggest finding out about and trying your local clubs - see if you like them.
There's loads of clubs listed on intosport.org.uk
Good luck.

We did the 18 mile version this morning, really enjoyed it, the weather was lovely (although could have done without the wind on the return half!) mostly scenic route with a great down hill section into Shelford! The race marshalls were friendly and helpful, generally good organisation.
100 miler next year then!
Can't speak for Lincs coast, but north norfolk is worth the trip if the wind direction is right. Hunstanton works in SW, through anything with North in it. Brancaster works in W through anything with north in it and can be great. Both not v. good at low water.

Fraisthorpe (just south of Bridlington) can be OK-It's popular. I've sailed it a few times, but I've always had better days in Norfolk

If you want any more info post here and I'll let you know.
Thanks for that reply. Been off the scene as you can see!!
Am probably having to give up the sport due to ill health.

Thanks to everyone for their support and hard work, and well done to all who took part!

Well done to our very own Shape Up Notts team, who met for the first time last night and put in their best efforts. The Shape Up Notts team have been hand picked to train and run for the Experian Robin Hood Festival of Running as each one is runing for a special cause. More information is on this website. There's still a chance to register for the Robin Hood Half/Full Marathon just visit http://www.experianfestivalofrunning.co.uk/ for more information.

We had some quick times last night, with Matt Alexander and Sarah Maude clocking the quickest male and female times respectively. Sarah not only clocked 5minutes 18seconds for her last leg, but also 5m 19s for the first – impressive running! Matt went slightly quicker with a time of 5 minutes and 3 seconds – just outside the magical sub 5 minutes! Well done to both who each win a Polar Heart Rate Monitors

Thanks again to everyone for taking part and we hope to see some of you at other events we are working on – 22nd June is next for the Great Notts Bike Ride (www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/bikeride). And don’t forget if you start logging your points in the Sport Nottinghamshire Workplace Challenge (www.sportnottinghamshire.co.uk) you could win £2,500 to spend on sports and fitness in your business.
It does fall down for people who have a high muscle content (e.g. professional athletes), but then you’d hope that they may realise that they are not overweight.

Be wary about discrediting BMI as it will give some people a ready made excuse not to believe they need to lose weight - "Well, if Jona Lomu’s BMI said he was obese, why should I have to diet?"

True enough, i wasn't 'discrediting' it as such, just people need to be wary that it isn't 'the bible' it gives a decent indication but if you are reasonably fit and feel/look good but your BMI says 'you are slightly overweight'??? How many people are striving (unnecessarily) to drop their weight even more? Not everyone understands the principles of weight loss/dieting and exercise/ BFP etc!

There's currently 35 organisations listed and 184 individuals signed up to the Workplace Challenge.
If you haven't done so yet, get your workplace on the list.
It's easy to do: If you already have your workplace included as a group that you've joined, just opt in by clicking on the button next to your workplace's name.
If your workplace isn't yet listed, set it up as a group by clicking on 'Join Club, School or Workplace' on the top right hand side of your Profile Home page, then when it's set up as a group for you, just opt into the Workplace Challenge, as above
Some people may first need to go to Edit Personal Info in order to include themselves on the leaderboards in order for their scores to count.

Once you're signed up, try and persuade your work colleagues to join in and give you some competition!

With your help, we can reach our target of 100 workplaces signed up and 1000 people involved in the Challenge.
Cheers
