 | | sherwoodforest | Get involved in Walk Week this May, taking place between the 17th and 26th, and help celebrate walks in Nottinghamshire, get fit and enjoy a range of activities throughout the week. It’s free to take part, and every participant will receive a free gift and details of future events to encourage walking in the future. Try your hand at Nordic walking, rambling, leisure walks, or if you’re a new mum, get back into fitness and shape by attending a ‘Pushy Mothers’ taster session. The events are aimed at all ages. There is no need to register, just turn up at as many of the events you like! On Wednesday there is a walk to work day, ‘Walk on Wednesday’, which encourages walking as a way of building exercise into our busy daily lives, and encouraging a healthy workforce. It’s been proved that fitter employees take less sickness absence and have lower levels of stress. By encouraging walking to the workplace, companies can also free up car parking spaces, and help save the environment. If you would like to get involved then log onto www.walkweek.org to find out more about what’s happening each day. If you would like more ideas on creating your own event, or more information on ‘Walk on Wednesday’ then send an email to info@walkweek.org for a free pack that will include promotional materials to display and distribute to staff. You will also receive a free gift for taking part. The ideas are endless, for example, a ‘walker’s breakfast’ or a guided lunchtime walk (we’ll give you more ideas in the pack). You could also work together with neighbouring companies to organise an event. Walk Week is organised by a team of partners including Nottinghamshire County Council, Nottingham City Council, Nottingham University Hospitals, Catherine Hughes (Nordic walking instructor and personal trainer), Primary Care Trusts, Get Moving Nottingham, Shape Up Notts!, Nottingham Trent University, Broxtowe Borough Council and the Big Wheel.
